about:

Annex:art was originally founded in 2004 in Berlin-Friedrichshain as Artline-Berlin, a project of the former Gallery24 International which operated exhibition spaces in Berlin, Paris and New York. The program continues to offer artists the opportunity to exercise their creative talents outside the confines of their base studio environment. In order to facilitate achieving this goal a comprehensive series of programs has been established with focus on allowing the artist the freedom to structure a residency or to participate in a workshop that best suites his/her personal goals.

In addition to individual residencies, Annex:art coordinates international artist workshops throughout the year at various participating venues. Each workshop provides artists with the opportunity to delve into a particular theme related program with expertise guidance from an artist facilitator. These workshops will generally be limited to 8 participants and are intended not only to enable the artist to discover and experiment with techniques outside his/her own realm of artistry, but encourage the artist to develop the procedures further in order to incorporate them into their own bodies of work.

The facilities at Kleindorf-Art in Strodehne, Germany and those in San Fidel, New Mexico provide unique atmospheres for artists who wish to escape the hectic day-to-day life that often confronts them in their home studios abroad. These facilities enable the artists to interact with other international artists in a rural farm setting. With an abundance of space to live and work, the artists are able to relax and create in a tranquil garden environment. In Strodehne the spacious stables and barns permit the artist to work independently of other resident artists or to mingle and create in a more communal setting.  While in San Fidel the enchanting backdrop of high desert New Mexico sets the creative energies free to connect with nature.

During the summer months both facilities will additionally offer artist retreats for emerging artists. In addition Annex:art can assit to co-ordinate an exhibition of works from participating artists which will be exhibited at participating venues.
