Zeitgeist - Berlin
Zeitgeist /ˈzaɪtˌɡaɪst/
the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time.
Annex:art is pleased to announce its call for artists for the 2016 edition of the Zeitgeist exhibition in Berlin. This year's exhibition will be held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Dada. Artists working in any genre are invited to submit works for consideration by our jury. In order to be eligible for inclusion in the exhibition, the submitted works should evoke the historical ramifications of the Dada movement while offering an avant-garde contemporary analysis.
Each artist should reflect on the fundamental premise that Dada emerged as an artistic movement, which grew out of dissatisfaction for traditional social values and conventional artistic practices during World War I . Dada artists were disillusioned by the social values that led to the war and sought to expose accepted and often repressive conventions of order and logic by shocking people into self-awareness. These premises should be conveyed through the artist's take on the current issues confronting our modern society.
The exhibition will open on July 14, 2016, which marks the 100th anniversary of Hugo Ball's Dada Manifesto published on July 14, 1916.
The artist whose work is chosen as the best presentation of Zeitgeist in his or her work the will be eligible to receive a sponsored residency in either Germany or Saint Louis. Details about the residency will be made available in the near future.
The jury selection will be announced on June 10, 2016. Deadline for application is mid-night (CST) May 31, 2016. A $35 non-refundable application fee for up to 3 images is payable from all artists. Artists may submit more that 3 images for jury consideration.
